The Body Shop employees caged in India protest of circus cruelty

Of Course Vegan

Locked in cages stacked on top of one another and holding signs that read, “Try to Relate to Their Fate – Ban Animal Circuses”, employees of The Body Shop and members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India protested in Mumbai today against the use of animals in circuses. The action marks World Animal Day (4 October) and comes in the wake of PETA India’s nine-month investigation of 16 circuses across India that revealed rampant abuse of elephants, horses, camels, dogs, birds and other animals. PETA India and employees of The Body Shop are calling on the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) to follow the lead of Bolivia, Cyprus, Greece and Austria by introducing legislation to enact a ban on the use of animals in circuses.

“The Body Shop has always refused to test products on animals. When we learned from PETA [India] that animals in…

Rats Used at Haunted House Need Your Voice

Our Compass

BACKGROUND | SOURCE PETA

Scandia—a “family fun” center in Ontario, California—reportedly uses live rats as “props” at its annual haunted house event, which runs from September 27 to November 2. According to attendees, Scandia keeps some rats caged beneath fog machines, while others are carried by employees who shove them into the faces of screaming patrons. Rats are highly intelligent animals who are extremely sensitive to noise, vibrations, and lighting—and being subjected to the chaos that is commonplace at fright attractions, without means of escape or defense, is pure torture for them. PETA has implored the owners to end their use of rats, but to no apparent avail. We need your help now!

Let Scandia Sports, Inc., know that it’s cruel to use rats as props, and ask the company to stop doing so! Then, please spread this alert far and wide.

New Jersey Gestation Crate Bill …

Animal Blawg

Megan Hopper-Rebegea

Gestation_crates_5On May 14, 3013, the New Jersey Assembly passed NJ A.3250 / S.1921, a Bill to Ban Cruel Confinement of Breeding Pigs by a vote of 60 to 5 in the Assembly and 29 to 4 in the Senate.  The legislation prohibits the extreme confinement of breeding pigs in crates that do not allow the animals to turn around.  If the legislation had been signed by Governor Chris Christie, it would have made New Jersey the tenth state to outlaw these types of gestation crates.  A.3250 / S.1921 would require that breeding pigs be able to at least stand up, lie down, turn around, and extend their limbs.

Wolf Wars Part 1000…

Howling For Justice

Wolf_Wars_Infographic_Center_for_Biological_Diversity.jpg

October 7, 2013

This banner,  from Center For Biological Diversity, pretty much says it all…although I think the Northern Rockies estimate is too high, Nobody really knows how many wolves reside in Idaho, Montana or Wyoming.  Jay Mallonee, Montana wolf biologist, believes Montana FWP’s data on wolf numbers is seriously flawed.  AND the chart doesn’t take into account the number of wolves who died in Montana and Idaho in 2009/2010. Over 500 wolves perished in the wolf hunt, Wildlife Services killings, 10j, poaching and general mortality…which would raise the total of dead wolves to over 2000, not including the ongoing wolf hunts taking place now, Wildlife Services slaughter and continued poaching of these beleaguered animals.

The Obama administration has been the worst thing  for wolves since their first  extermination in the lower 48. He and his cronies have undone the hard-won progress made to  bring wolves back from the…
